Baylor's ElmagcoTM eddy current auxiliary drawworks brakes are currently used world wide on both land based and offshore drilling rigs. These devices are ruggedly built, have established outstanding performance records, and require very little in service attention. Baylor's ElmagcoTM Braking systems include a complete range of electromagnetic brakes, controls, monitors, and cooling systems. When installed, operated and maintained properly, ElmagcoTM Braking systems provide optimum performance, reliability, and safety at a minimum maintenance cost.
The Baylor ElmagcoTM Brake develops exceptionally high braking torque and horsepower absorption, giving the driller positive, infinitely variable control over drill string speed under heavy loads - all without friction devices of any kind. Magnetic lines of force produce the braking torque instead of belts, slip rings, brake bands or pads. The Baylor ElmagcoTM Brake gives the driller high braking torque at very low, as well as high rotational speeds. Because the Baylor ElmagcoTM Brake is deactivated by simply turning it off, therefore no overrunning clutch is required.
Baylor ElmagcoTM Brakes are manufactured in 13 standard sizes for nominal drilling depths and ranging from 8000 feet up to 45,000 feet. Baylor drilling and marine products meet the requirements of DNV, Lloyds Registry, ABS, and many more 3rd party certifiers. Baylor ElmagcoTM Brakes are Factory Mutual certified for use in hazardous areas.
